I'm a fine artist and illustrator specializing in painting and drawing both on and off the computer. I have always loved to draw and paint natural subjects, motivated by the colors and details of my subjects. I started my career as a graphic designer and illustrator before returning to school to earn my Masters in Art Education. I am fortunate to be able to work with young people, sharing my passion for the visual arts while continuing to create my own work.

As a nature lover, it is the beauty of my subjects, which initially inspires me to paint. My time spent outside in nature is often interrupted. Intrusions from the outside world; work, technology, responsibilities, and current events sometimes prevail over my moments of introspection and my connection with nature. My paintings are the result of my desire to maintain this connection. Along with a detailed representation of my natural subjects, I introduce layers of semi-hidden imagery, including everyday, banal objects. Influenced by my experience in graphic design and technology’s ability to alter various aspects of an image digitally, I exaggerate the formal elements of my subjects on canvas. I use vibrant colors and bold edges to call attention to my subjects as they are revealed, weaving in and over each other. I find my compositions are most interesting to paint when they border on abstraction. As I construct my compositions, new patterns, forms, and associations evolve. I create collisions of plants, water, or natural curved forms with man made objects, often tools. Points, corners, and angles can seem potentially harmful. In contrast, soft, natural forms are safe and nurturing. The tension between the two subjects as they are combined into abstracted shapes and bold colors compels me to paint.
